Def Jam Vendetta
Def Jam VENDETTA invites you to the underground circuit of hardcore brawling. Get your props as you hook up with the urban local legends and battle for ultimate supremacy. Featuring an original storyline and more than 45 unique characters, Def Jam VENDETTA by EA SPORTS BIG? provides over 1,500 varying moves, including dozens of signature special moves and taunts. This is your chance to earn money, power, and respect. Advance through more than 10 highly-detailed hip-hop venues, each filled with animated crowds, hot beats, and original music, and see if you can overthrow D-Mob, the underground king.Touting itself as “too gangster for the Garden” (in the words of its kingpin D-Mob),
Def Jam Vendetta takes you on a head-slamming, gut-busting tour of the underground hip-hop fightclub circuit. No blow is too low in this testosterone-spiked world featuring the music and likenesses of such def jam artists as Ghostface Killah, Redman, and Ludacris–not to mention a whole host of the nastiest, most lowdown fictional thugs you’d imagine the hardcore rap world has to offer. Everyone’s lying in wait to see if you’re for real or just another wannabe player.
Def Jam Vendetta offers three game modes: battle, where it’s just you against up to the three takers; survival, in which you fight all comers until you lose; and, where the real meat of the game takes place, story, in which you fight as one of four brawlers. The journey begins at the Face Club where you step in for your injured pal Manny. From there you’ll move on to other venues such as DMX’s Junkyard and Ludacris’ Club Luda and climb the ranks to the ultimate showdown with D-Mob. The route there isn’t a cakewalk, but the more battles you win, the more money you make to upgrade your fighting attributes. Victories also bring the ladies calling who literally fight for your attention–win a fight by playing as the newest girl to approach you and you’ll unlock pictures of her in your photo gallery.
Action inside the ring is gritty and furious as you can lay down a multitude of moves and combinations with names like hurtin’ unit, spittin’ teef, ghetto thuggin’, and death row delivery, to name just a few. Momentum is key in building toward blazin’ mode in which you can utilize your signature move for the sure KO. In the meantime, though, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in decking your opponents and watching them writhe about in pain and moan.–Larry White

Not your typical Wrestling game!!!,
Ok, first of all I hate wrestling games and have never liked one enough to buy it or even play it.
This one is way different.
It isn’t like other wrestling games, you can break your opponents arms or legs if you perform submission moves on that part of the body enough times, for Submission wins, you can K.O. them with fatality-like Supermoves, or hey you can go for the tradition al pin.
You can pick from a variety of “def Jam” artists including: Method man, Ghostface Killah, Redman, DMX,Ludacris,Funk master flex, N.O.R.E.,Capone,Kieth Murray,WC, and Joe Budden(who is the only guy on def jam who hasn’t released an actual album in the whole time he has been on their label,What’s up with that?)
Anyway, the more you play the more money you get to make your “story mode” characters better(buy power, speed, stamina, etc.)there is a “Survival” mode,as well as up to four player multi player set up.
MY ONLY COMLAINT?
the fact that if you beat the game and get all the characters and all outfits and everything, and you go to play multi player?
the person you play against doesnt have all the characters.
They have to beat the game through with all the story mode characters to get them and save them to a seperate identity so that you can have all players for 2 player mode.
AND THE GAME IS LONG!!!!! 40 wrestlers to beat, it can take some time, and not all of them can be pinned. Some HAVE to be K.O’d like a fatality(like the end boss). Also there are some pretty unfair matches,One of which you have to fight 3 guys and you cant pin them, you have to K.O one of them! Hard stuff!
In my opinion fans of fighting games and wrestling games will like this game, but make no mistake about it this game relies on grapples very heavily like a wrestling game.If you want to do big damage you have to learn them.
Worth buying for sure!!!!!!!!!!! but hey , rent it first if you want to be %100 sure!!

Def Jam Vendetta,
I got the demo of this game in the Feb issue of OPM and it was awesome. I played a later version at the mall in NY and it was way quicker. The version in OPM was slower, but demo’s are just that…demo’s…I never have too much expectations for demo’s. I played all of the developer’s (AKI) N64 games back in the day and was interesed to see how thier kick [butt] engine ported to PS2. The demo at the mall was very impressive. The response felt like a fighting game, but still had the amazing grappling engine that I love about AKI. Blending EA BIG with AKI was brilliant. At first, the concept with Def Jam seemed weird to me, but the gameplay and fresh twist to the genre kicks Smackdown to the ground. Finally a game engine that makes sense again with a fresh style. From what I have read, the game has a very extensive story mode, but all I really care about is great gameplay. Anyways, I cant wait to get this game when it comes out. I just hope these games start coming out with an online component.

Underground Street fights are rough, tough, and never easy..,
But, so are you
Pros:
-Pretty good graphics
-Nicely done wrestling-style battle system
-Music from all the main Def Jam artist
-Some of the blaze finishers are Spectacular
-I get to be some of my favorite rappers(DMX, Ludacris, Mef/Red)
-Great voice acting(despite some voices arent in for long)
-Nice setups for devistating combos
-EA big has created another masterpiece, with the help of Def Jam
Cons:
-You don’t have any weapons to use
-Where’s the create a fighter mode
-Game’s too short(beat it in just 3 days)
-Where’s Jay-Z(So I can kick his copying…) Ja Rule(So I can kick his fake …), Freeway, Beanie Seigl, Slick Rick, and LL Cool J? That would’ave made the game a lot better(getting revenge for artist who made me waste my money, and more artist whom I appreciate), and longer.
This game definitly made me forget about Smackdown real fast. Despite the cons, this game definitly will please fans of wrestling, and all of def jams fans as well. So if you are fans of either, this should be in your collection of PS2 games(or gamecube games)
Final Words:This game was superb, no doubt, but I just hope that if they make a sequel to this, let’s just hope all of the problems this game has will definitly be tweaked, so everyone can enjoy a much better, and longer game.
Peace
