The Deepest Feature Set of Any FIFA Game Yet

FIFA 13 captures all the drama and unpredictability of real-world soccer, and is driven by five game-changing innovations which revolutionize artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control and physical play. It is the largest and deepest feature set in the history of the franchise. These innovations create a true battle for possession across the entire pitch, deliver freedom and creativity in attack, and capture all the drama and unpredictability of the real-world game.

Key Game Features

  • Attacking Intelligence – Players have the ability to analyze space, work harder and smarter to break down the defense, and think two plays ahead. Plus, players make runs that pull defenders out of position and open passing channels for teammates.
  • Complete Dribbling – Face your opponent and use precise dribble touches combined with true 360-degree mobility with the ball. Be more creative and dangerous in 1v1 opportunities.
  • 1st Touch Control – A new system transforms the way players control the ball, eliminating near-perfect touch for every player, and creating more opportunities for defenders to capitalize on errant balls and poor touches to win back possession.
  • EA Sports Football Club – Join the club and experience soccer’s social network. Earn rewards, level up, enjoy live challenges, and connect with friends. Everything within FIFA 13, and against friends, is measured in a meaningful way. Fans can earn rewards to unlock items from the new Football Club Catalog, and build their status as they climb 100 levels. Real-world storylines drive Football Club through regular challenges so that FIFA 13 will look, feel and play like the real-world season. Support your club and compete against rivals in every area of the game, lifting your club higher in the league tables or helping them avoid relegation. Plus, the new EA Sports Football Club App for the iPhone enables fans to access to their EA Sports Football Club identity and friends, manage their FIFA Ultimate Team, search the live auctions and bid to win new players.
  • Multiplayer Support – Enjoy multiplayer action with friends and family both locally, and online.

  • Attacking Intelligence – All-new positioning intelligence wires attacking players with the intelligence to analyze plays, and to position themselves to create new attacking opportunities.
  • FIFA 13 Complete Dribbling – Make every touch matter with the control to be more creative in attack, and the freedom to exploit 1v1 opportunities.
  • FIFA 13 1st Touch Control – A new trapping system eliminates near-perfect control for every player by creating uncertainty around trapping.
  • Player Impact Engine – The second generation of the award-winning physics engine expands physical play from collisions for the ball to off-the-ball battles, giving defenders more tools to win back possession.
  • New Passes – Two new passing options give players the ability to dink passes over the outstretched leg of a defender or loft through balls to teammates.
  • Complete Authenticity – Over 500 officially licensed clubs and more than 15,000 players.
  • FIFA 13 Fundamentals – Essential elements have been refined to make the experience more authentic. Referees will now make better decisions awarding fouls and cards, goalkeeper intelligence has been improved, and Tactical Defending has added lateral mobility for players in defensive containment.

Not all that different from Fifa 12, but small improvements go a long way!, September 26, 2012

Slashaholic Anonymous “Steve” (Salt Lake City, UT USA) –

    = Fun:
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 13 (Video Game)

I put hundreds of hours into Fifa 12. Several seasons, hundreds of games with my ultimate team, and dozens upon dozens of 1 v 1 local matches against my friend and sworn Fifa rival. Despite its shortcomings, Fifa 12 became one of my favorite games of all time. Fifa 13 does little to change the fundamental mechanics of Fifa 12, rather, small additions, tweaks, and improvements give Fifa 13 a glistening coat of polish and make it an even more realistic, accessible, and satisfying football/soccer experience than ever before.
I’ll address the question of whether Fifa 13 merits the $60 price tag, particularly if you already own Fifa 12. There’s no clear-cut answer to this question, a number of factors need to be considered: How much do you play Fifa? Do you closely follow current soccer, whether domestic or international? Do you play Ultimate Team? If you are a very casual Fifa player, jumping on every now and then for a quick game or two to get your fix, then there’s no rush to buy Fifa 13, as the core game experience is very similar. But if you’re more like me, and want the most up-to-date squad rosters, player ratings, Ultimate Team, and most realistic soccer experience available, then certainly the investment in Fifa 13 is justified.
Big new additions to Fifa 13 are as follows: For actual gameplay, the new “first touch” mechanic basically adds more variability to how well players trap the ball. Depending on the position of the player, whether or not they’re moving, and their ball control rating, players may trap the ball in a less-than-perfect manner. Dribbling is a little smoother; it still takes a fair bit of practice before you’ll be successfully rounding defenders left and right, but it’s more accessible than in Fifa 12.
Fifa 13 exhibition matches have a cool new feature called Match Day, where EA updates player ratings on a week-to-week basis to reflect how well the player/team played that week. This feature can be turned off if you’d prefer to simply play with the players as Fifa/EA decided to rate them for this year.
Edited to add: I’ve had a chance to play a number of online ultimate team matches; online stability/lag appear to be pretty similar to Fifa 12. I have a decent connection, so most of my matches have been pretty smooth. Ultimate Team has received a make-over, with single matches no longer an option, but offline and online “seasons” added, in which there are 5 divisions, and each season you play a set number of games against players in your same division, with the potential of promotion or relegation depending on how many points you can get.
For the sake of keeping this review to a somewhat reasonable length, I’ll end by saying that thus far I am extremely satisfied with Fifa 13, and I foresee myself putting hundreds more hours into it over the coming year.

    EXTREMELY BUGGY, October 7, 2012
    By

This review is from: FIFA Soccer 13 (Video Game)

First of all i think it is a disgrace that EA is marketing FIFA13 as a new product when in fact it is (almost) the same product as FIFA12. In my book the difference between Fifa12 and Fifa13 is more of a v1.0 to v1.1 upgrade. Anyway us fans will keep on buying it anyway since we want updated squads and of course the online market always moves towards the latest version so it will be less and less players to play against in Fifa12. Right? True up until now, but no more.

The worst part of this game however is not that it is copied too much from Fifa12, it is that it is so EXTREMELY buggy. For example, in 1 days playing I had to force quit 3 times and restart. This is just ridiculous, it is an absolute disgrace that a big player like EA would release a product that has so poor quality. Hey EA have you ever heard about QA? No you haven’t, go google that.

Those bugs that requires force quit are of course the most annoying (by the way all 3 times where at unrelated places), but there are more. So many more bugs…

Example: I’m about to play the Fifa online league as an English BPL team. When the stadium is loaded i suddenly see that i play as Barcelona, 1 second later the game exits back to the main menu: “Lost connection”. Another time, I choose an international team, after I clicked team management before the game I see that the squad is actually totally incorrect, not even 1 player is correct. I press back, Fifa prompts “Saving your changes”, automatically. Even though i didn’t make any changes. Theres no end to the amounts of bugs in this game and heads should roll at EA for releasing this piece of crap.

Have played FIFA series on XBOX since 03 and then the more recent years on PS3, but this was the last time i bought a game from EA. You’re not getting 80 bucks from be again next year.

EA SPORTS you’re an embarrassment to everything about good software development. Please support competitor products instead, get this lazy arrogant giant off his feet.

Ans yes i know EA sports will release bug patches later and I don’t claim that the software should be bug free, but at this level of quality this release is nothing else than a spit in the users face.

Rewards offensive creativity more than ever (but buggy in the extreme), October 4, 2012

The game adds more first touch skill to teams. This means that lobbed through passes for example are less easy to do because by the time the player gains control of it, the defenders are there unless your player has a very high first touch rating. The game also makes bending the ball into the net from just outside the penalty area more difficult, effectively taking this cheap tactic for goals away. FIFA 13 makes dribbling even more important and it gives teammates more offensive-mindedness, so players who work hard on their press tactics are going to get burned because the opposing team’s players will run to spots vacated by the pressing team meaning if you get the pass there, the opponent is in trouble. This makes it more realistic. FIFA 13 also corrected the issue of the referee having the same color jersey as one of the sides (UPDATE: This is unfortunately not correct. The referee sometimes still wears a dark jersey when one of the teams is dark making him hard to pick out from the opposing team. Why EA doesn’t get it and always make the referee’s jersey a bright color that is not one of the teams jerseys is a mystery). One other thing, the music soundtrack is extensive this year and better than FIFA 12.

The game still suffers from ridiculousness such as little Messi heading the ball over big defenders for goals and certain goalkeepers on some teams (Barcelona and Man City) making point blank saves over and over again. EA needs to also fix the cheap goal off a goal kick, this would never happen in real life. the game needs to give the keeper more control over where he places the kick. And please do something about the ability of defenders to mysteriously be able to kick it into an extra gear when a through pass is delivered. I have played games where my player is steps ahead of the defender, running toward the goal, but when I deliver the pass, the defender suddenly can race by my player to get the ball. it’s ridiculous and wouldn’t happen in the real game. There is also still the favoritism that EA FIFA has towards Barcelona, often times Barca is getting 2-3 rebounds in a row to get the goals while other teams get zero…and the barca keeper gives no rebounds. This unfair advantage for one team makes it much easier for someone to play this team and not be as good a player. It’s an advantage that EA needs to stop giving to this one team!

The game needs a software update too. Online line play is buggy with a lot of disconnections occurring just as the game is about to start. There is also a bug where the game never starts and you are stuck on the one-on-one screen (player vs keeper) and you have to quit the game and restart it (I suspect that’s what’s causing the first problem too). While this happened occasionally in FIFA 12 it happens a lot in FIFA 13. The graphics also get fuzzy at times, particularly on goal kicks. There is also still a bug on how offsides is called where sometimes the play is called offside because FIFA 13 gets confused when there are two players on same line when a pass is made; it calls offside if the player further up is offside even though the ball is corralled by the player lesser up the field. I’ve been called offside when the player who gets the ball is still in his own half!

Overall a small improvement over FIFA 12 making the game a little more real.
